types of reactions
There are 5 types of different reactions:
1 Synthesis: This is when two or more elements are added together to create a compound it is (Element + element = Compound) Example: Magnesium + Sulfur = Magnesium Sulfide This is written as (Mg + P= Mg3P2) to balance this equation you add a 3 in front of the Mg and a 2 In front of the P
2 Decomposition- This is when the equation starts with a compound and breaks into smaller elements. (Compound= Element + Element) And there are different kinds of decompositions.
Metal Chlorate Decomp is when a compound contains a chlorate in the beginning of the equation and then Oxygen is added to the end of and equation (Metal Chlorate -> Metal Chlorate +Oxygen) Example: Barium Chlorate -> Barium Chloride + Oxygen
Metal Carbonate Decomp is when the compound includes Carbonate and carbon dioxide is added to the end (Metal Carbonate-> Metal Oxide + Carbon Dioxide) Example: Lithium Carbonate-> Lithium Oxide + Carbon dioxide)
Metal Hydroxide is (Metal Hydroxide-> Metal Oxide + water) Example: Gold (IV) hydroxide-> Gold(IV) Oxide + Water
3 Single Replacement: When an element and Compound form to make another element and Compound (Element + Compound = Element + Compound)
