Safety in the lab
When working in a lab with chemicals, it is very important to follow simple rules to be as safe as possible.

What to do in an emergency
Dress code:
- Always wear goggles so no chemicals will harm your eyes
- Don't wear any loose clothing like a baggy jacket or long sleeve shirt
- wear clothes that cover your lower body, chest, belly and upper arms
- Wear shoes that cover your toes
Safety equipment and its use
- First aid kit- First aid kit should have anything that will help an injury like Band-Aids, bandages, cleaning for skin, etc.
- Broom and a dust pan- This is used to clean up glass that may have fallen and broken into pieces. DO NOT PICK UP BROEN GLASS WITH HANDS
- Gas masks- This is to protect you from harmful fumes that you may breath in
- Sink- This is to wash your hands after getting any chemicals on your hands and after you complete the lab
- Safety shower and eye station- This is for any harm chemical that gets on your skin and in your eyes. If that happens you should inform your lab instructor right away so they can assist you
What to do in an emergency
- Broken Glass- Get all the pieces up with a broom and pan
- Chemical Spill- Make sure you inform everyone that there is a spill, let the lab instructor handle the clean up.
- Chemical in your face- Tell the instructor, they will clean up in the shower and eye station
- Fire- Make sure everyone is informed, get the fire blanket and put it out. If fire is too big, pull the fire alarm
When leaving the lab
Turn off all flames
Unplug any equipment used
